How To Polish A Car With No Clear Coat

Thread: Who knows how to polish an old car without clear coat?

   Hi to everyone

   I used to polish cars but a new client came yesterday and asked me if I could polish an old TR 2. I suppose such car has no clear coat.

   The question is.... what should be taken into account when polishing cars without clear coat ???

   I have a nonclearcoated car along with many others on these forums. Nothing different really needs to be done, just be careful as with any detailing job. What polish do you normally use on CC cars? You really should just make sure you are careful around the corners and lines of the car because if you leave your buffer on that spot, it is possible to go through the color and down to the primer.

   Thanks for your quick answer Greg!!

   I use to polish SONAX paintwork cleaner (soft one) + Carnauba wax.

   First I use a opened cell foam pad and in the second round I use a soft finishing pad always using the same polish.

   I finish the job waxing.

   I agree with Greg. Clear coat is just paint - it can be hard or soft, just like non-clear coat paint. Treat with your normal caution for a new type of paint. Just like with clear, be careful not to go through it as the undercoat will show - this makes it worse than clear as it will be a contrasting colour rather than just a loss of gloss.

   I would simply use a Cleaner Wax. It is safe and really should be able to get the results you are looking for.

   I would only use a Carnauba Wax, as a top coat, if the car is going to spend a lot of time out of the sun in a protected garage.

   If the car is a daily driver I would recommend only the Cleaner Wax. No additional layer of Carnauba. The reason is that the Carnauba will harden in time and present a much more difficult job the next time the car is polished. With a Cleaner Wax you have the advantage of being able to polish the car more often with very little effort and still being able to get good results.

   Just my thoughts...
